- According to Stephen King’s novel IT, Pennywise the clown wakes up every 27 years. This book was first adapted for the screen in 1990, and the new adaptation was released 27 years later. Bill Skarsgard, who played Pennywise, was 27 years old during filming.
2. Pennywise the clown was inspired by a real-life killer and rapist John Wayne Gacy who would dress up as a clown and do children’s parties. He presented himself as an active member of the community and was known for entertaining sick children and raising money for charity.
